Overview
Dermazin® Cream is a topical antimicrobial formulation containing 1% micronised silver sulfadiazine, manufactured by Sandoz. Widely used in both human and veterinary medicine, it is designed to prevent and treat infections in burn wounds, abrasions, and skin ulcers. In veterinary settings, it is commonly prescribed for dogs and cats with traumatic skin injuries or post-surgical wounds at risk of bacterial contamination.

Uses / Indications
Dermazin® is indicated for:
- Prevention and treatment of infections in second- and third-degree burns
- Management of traumatic skin wounds (e.g. abrasions, lacerations)
- Post-surgical wound care
- Skin ulcers and pressure sores
- Bacterial skin infections where topical antimicrobial therapy is appropriate
Dosage
- Clean the affected area thoroughly
- Apply a thin layer of Dermazin® Cream to the wound once or twice daily
- Cover with sterile dressing if needed
- Continue treatment until wound shows signs of healing or as directed by a veterinarian
- Wash hands after application and prevent licking of treated area
Possible Side Effects
- Mild local irritation, burning, or itching
- Allergic reactions (e.g. rash, swelling, erythema)
- Rare: Leukopenia or systemic sulfonamide effects if applied to large surface areas over prolonged periods
- Delayed wound healing in sensitive individuals
Drug & Food Interactions
- Avoid concurrent use with enzymatic debriding agents (may reduce efficacy)
- Use with caution in animals receiving systemic sulfonamides
- No known food interactions
Precautions
- For external use only
- Do not apply to eyes, mucous membranes, or deep puncture wounds
- Use with caution in pregnant or lactating animals
- Not recommended for animals with sulfonamide hypersensitivity
- Store below 25°C, away from direct sunlight
