Indications for use:
Marbofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, especially those in the bladder, kidneys, prostate, or skin. It has also been used to treat leishmaniasis in dogs and feline tuberculosis and hemoplasmosis. Marbofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolones group of antibiotics and is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic with antibacterial activity against a wide range of bacteria
including pseudomonas, staphylococcus, haemophilus, Enterobacter and E. coli. Marbofloxacin works by inhibiting specific bacterial enzymes (bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase) needed for the bacteria to replicate and repair its DNA. Marbofloxacin blocks bacterial growth and prevents the spread of infection. Marbofloxacin is fast acting with long lasting effect, which enables once-daily dosing.
Administration and Dosage
The recommended dose is 1.25 mg / lb (2.75 mg / kg) of pet’s body weight given once a day, but the dosage may be increased to 2.5 mg/lb of pet’s body weight. For treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, give for 2- 3 days after symptoms are gone, for a maximum of 30 days. For treatment of urinary tract infections, give for at least 10 days. However, if there is no improvement after 5 days your pet should be re-evaluated.
