📊 Nutritional Composition / Active Ingredients
| Component | Quantity per Tablet |
|---|---|
| Benazepril Hydrochloride | 5 mg |
💊 Uses / Indications
- Dogs: Treatment of congestive heart failure, particularly due to mitral valve disease or dilated cardiomyopathy.
- Cats: Reduction of proteinuria associated with chronic kidney disease, helping to preserve renal function and reduce glomerular hypertension.
🐾 Feeding Instructions / Dosage
- Dogs: Typically 0.25–0.5 mg/kg orally once daily. May be increased to twice daily based on clinical response.
- Cats: 0.5–1 mg/kg orally once daily.
- Administration: Tablets may be given with or without food. They are palatable and can be administered directly or hidden in treats.
- Monitoring: Regular assessment of blood pressure, renal function (creatinine, urea), and electrolyte levels is recommended during treatment.
⚠️ Possible Side Effects
-
Dogs:
- Rare: Diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, fatigue
- Very rare: Elevated creatinine, incoordination
-
Cats:
- Rare: Emesis, diarrhea, anorexia, dehydration, lethargy
- Very rare: Elevated creatinine, increased appetite, weight gain
- A moderate increase in plasma creatinine may occur initially, which is compatible with reduced glomerular pressure and not necessarily a reason to discontinue therapy.
🔄 Drug & Food Interactions

May interact with:
- Diuretics (e.g., furosemide)
- Potassium-sparing agents (e.g., spironolactone)
- NSAIDs (may reduce efficacy and renal perfusion)
