💊 Uses / Indications

  • Dogs:
    • Treatment of congestive heart failure due to mitral valve disease or dilated cardiomyopathy
    • Management of systemic hypertension
    • Control of proteinuria in chronic kidney disease or glomerulonephritis
  • Cats:
    • Adjunctive therapy for heart failure
    • Management of protein-losing nephropathy and hypertension


🐾 Feeding Instructions / Dosage

  • Dogs:
    • Cardiac disease: 0.5 mg/kg orally every 24 hours, may increase to every 12 hours if needed
    • Protein-losing nephropathy: 0.25–1 mg/kg orally every 12–24 hours
    • Hypertension: 0.5 mg/kg orally every 12 hours
  • Cats:
    • 0.25–0.5 mg/kg orally every 12–24 hours
  • Administration:
    • Can be given with or without food
    • Tablets may be split or compounded for accurate dosing in small animals
    • Regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal parameters, and electrolytes is recommended


⚠️ Possible Side Effects

  • Hypotension (weakness, disorientation)
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Azotemia (elevated kidney values)
  • Gastrointestinal upset: vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia (rare)
  • Lethargy or reduced activity


🔄 Drug & Food Interactions

  • May interact with:
    • Potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone) – risk of hyperkalemia
    • NSAIDs – may reduce renal perfusion and efficacy
    • Diuretics, beta-blockers, vasodilators – increased risk of hypotension
  • Safe to use with pimobendan, digoxin, and other cardiac medications under veterinary guidance

  • Not recommended for use in pregnant or lactating animals
  • Avoid in pets with hypotension or acute cardiac output failure
  • Use cautiously in animals with renal insufficiency or electrolyte imbalances
  • Monitor renal function and blood pressure regularly during treatment
